In ten days time the curtain will be coming down on the extraordinary career of sprint king Usain Bolt, and the Jamaican has made it clear he’s just as hungry for success as when he burst onto the scene nine years ago.
As Bolt breezed into London for his final media appearance ahead of the World Championships in Stratford, the appetite to see him remains feverish among fans and the media.
Joined on stage by his mum Jennifer and dad Wellesley at a brewery in central London, Bolt, 31, declared himself ready to go on Friday when the 100 metre heats kick off, before the finals 24 hours later, Sun reports.
Farewell beckons
“At the start of every season I do sit there and think, ‘Am I still fast, am I still unbeatable?’.
“But I know when I show up at a Championship I’m confident and ready to go, 100 per cent.
“On Sunday morning I want the headlines to say, ‘Unbeatable. Usain Bolt has retired unbeaten over the individual event,” he said.
“But I thrive on competition. I want other people to run fast so I can prove I’m the best. I always find something to motivate myself.
And the Jamaican showman fired an ominous warning to his peers by dismissing the possibility of an upset.
“What if I lose? Don’t worry, we won’t have that problem.”
Still the world record holder over 100m and 200m having broken his own marks in Berlin in 2009, Bolt says he hopes his astonishing times of 9.58 and 19.19 respectively will last for the rest of his life.
“I hope my records won’t be broken in my lifetime. I don’t want to see them go — I want to brag to my kids when they are five and six and say, ‘I’m still the best’,” he said.
Bolt swept to a triple-triple in Rio
The holder of 11 global titles also sent out a stern warning to cheats, saying their indiscretions will kill the sport.
He said: “Hopefully, athletes will see what’s going on and understand that if they don’t stop what they’re doing, the sport will die. I think it will hit rock bottom.”
And of course he still harbours ambitions of one day playing for
Manchester United after he finally hangs up his spikes.

“I’m still waiting for the call from Jose Mourinho,” he said.
